speeding ticket advice?
i just got pulled over today on my way to cedar point for doing 80 in a 65 and i didn't have my seatbelt on. :( i think i can get out of the ticket but my court date is scheduled for while i am going to be out of town. what do you think the approximate cost is going to be and do you think i would be able to get out of the speeding portion of the ticket if i had to speed up to avoid an accident? I told the state trooper and he did not seem to care to much. i was on the highway and the lady in front of my hit her brakes hard while going around the turn because of the officer there. i was looking to make the lane change anyway so i did not see her brake lights because i was checking my blind spot at the time. i needed to speed up because i basically had to cut off another car to change lanes and it was only a 2 lane highway.

- No one ever has to speed up that much to avoid an accident! One might have to swerve a little and momentarily accelerate, but no, that excuse is not going to work any better with the judge than it did with the trooper. In addition, driving without your seatbelt is a big deal. Sounds like you were nailed fair and square and you're going to have to accept the consequences. Buckle up.
- Why did you not slow down instead of speed up? What was the reason for not wearing your seat belt? Just pay the fines and quit wasting the courts time.
- Pay the seat belt fine because it's a no point ticket. Phone the court and see if you can take a defensive driver course to get off the speeding ticket and you will get the bonus of receiving a 10% discount on your auto insurance AND if you complete the course you get no points.
- not likely. an unsignaled lane change to avoid an accident maybe, but speeding up? judge will ask why you didn't just slow down.
- On my ticket, they posted the municipal courts telephone number at the bottom of the page, so I called and I was told my running a stop sign ticket was $134. As for the getting out of the ticket, good luck with that. At least you didn't get a reckless driving. Good luck
- you going to be out of packet 115.00 plus court cost round 200.00
- It's scumfucks like you that make it dangerous to be on the road. Have some god damn courtesy for others and slow down asswipe
- Why so fast? You're lucky you aren't dead. No, plead guilty. Things will eventually work their way out for you. State troopers hear that all of the time. Cut the excuses, suck it up and pay a fine of probably over $100 depending on your state.
- you're not going to get out of the tickets. if you had to speed up to avoid an accident, the cop would never have pulled you over.
- I don't think you have much chance of having anything reduced. What 2 lane road were you on heading toward Cedar Point that had a posted 65 speed limit? I thought the highest a 2 lane road in Ohio could be was 55. I also don't think Ohio has that driver school business to let you avoid points. You might check Ohio BMV. As far as cost, it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. I suggest you call the court's clerk (it should be on the ticker) to inquire about cost as well as scheduled date vs. your out-of-town plans. If it were me, I'd pay the speeding and the seatbelt violation and then slow down. I'm surprised you weren't aware that the Ohio troopers were stepping up enforcement from 7/2 thru 7/6 as well as a lot of local checkpoints. It's been all over the newscasts as well as in the newspapers.
- i've heard ur story in court before. the judge told the defendant, well, you should have slowed down to avoid the speeding vehicles. so he may tell u the same thing. as for the trooper not caring "so much" for your talking..its cuz we hear all sorts of stories..i've heard all the stories u can think of. .. . so yes, thas why he was not impressed by what u said...
