Advice regarding duty free alcohol needed.?

I returned yesterday from a holiday in Kenya with my wife. We flew from Mombasa to Nairobi, then Nairobi to Amsterdam and, finally, from Amsterdam to Manchester. Whilst in Nairobi, we each purchased a bottle of spirits. They were un-opened, and sealed in a polythene bag along with the receipt. When we were going through the boarding gate in Amsterdam, we had both bottles confiscated. I've checked websites and it would appear we were within our legal limits. Does anyone have any up-to-date information on whether this is correct, and action I can take if appropriate? Cheers.

  1. Unfortunately, every country has it's own system and limitations on goods to be tranported via air. In fact, the security people are allowed to confiscated goods on the spot arbitrarily and seldom have to account for their reasons beyond personal adjudication. For this reason, you have little or no recourse and any attempt to get them to pay for the goods confiscated will result in a lot of work, time, stress and zero payoff.
  2. Sounds like it was a brand the sercurity people would like. But really isent this about making you buy the alcohol there? What a pain
